Asian Plastic Surgery
ASIAN PROCEDURES
People may view plastic surgery as a means to Westernize Asians, but in actuality plastic surgery is a way to enhance an individual's beauty. Men and women of Asian heritage seek cosmetic surgery for the same fundamental reason as their Western counterparts; to feel better about themselves. One of the most important concepts when performing a procedure is maintaining ethnic integrity. Here in our office, you and Dr. Chung will discuss your goals and aspirations. Each of our operations is uniquely tailored for a natural looking you

ASIAN BLEPHAROPLASTY
The largest myth about Asians is that all Asians have small eyes without a fold or crease. The truth is that approximately 40% of Asians have an upper eyelid crease that is different from the Western eye

Asians born with no crease who seek to have surgery to create a fold are not looking to become Westernized. They are trying to achieve a look similar to their Asian counterparts who were born with an upper lid crease, which is very different from the Western eye

The above procedures can be performed under local anesthesia or with sedation. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour. There will be post-operative swelling and bruising that should subside within 2 weeks. It will take 3 to 4 months before final results are seen

ASIAN RHINOPLASTY
The Asian nose has certain characteristics that are the basis for refinement. A typical nose is often described as being broad with a flat nasal dorsum, wide nares, deficient tip projection, and thick porous skin

Enhancement of the nose is usually performed by augmentation with autogenous tissue (cartilage) or alloplastic implants (silicone, gore-tex). The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or with sedation; it is a same day procedure. A small incision is made within the nose and though this incision the augmenting tissue or implant is placed. There will be some post-operative swelling and bruising which should subside within 2 weeks. It will take 3 to 6 months before final results are seen.

ASIAN JAWLINE REDUCTION
In some patients the jaw line is out of proportion with the upper face, thus creating a wide lower face. The traditional approach for narrowing the jaw line is removing or shaving a portion of the jaw bone. Recent advances has lead us to reduce the width of the jaw line without surgery. This procedure is advantageous because it avoids any incision and has little or no down time with minimal risk.

ASIAN CALF REDUCTION
Asians differ from their Western counterparts in the area of the lower leg. Most Westerns have large calves due to deposition of excess fat, which can be enhanced with liposuction. Asians, however, seem to have larger calves due to hypertrophy of the gastrocnemius muscle, not fat deposition. Various techniques have been used to contour the lower legs of Asians including enervation. Recent advances has lead us to reduce the diameter of the calves without surgery and with minimal risk.
